WORLD WITHOUT ENGINEERS

Greetings people. The site is a little bit monotonous these days.. life has been busy with design projects, assignments etc. -notice the plural! Weird thing is, still manage to pen down something here! That's what I called P.A.S.S.I.O.N.

So, how's a week in my shoe? Nothing much, I would say. *Here comes the complaint again* It's all about projects & designs. I even missed the latest episode of BOF. *sigh*

These are some of the things we've been doing - they said, "sharing is caring"

Enough with the boring pics above, looking into the bright side of it, this kind of exposure is really fit though. After all, we (3rd Year students) will be having our internship this April. So, like it @ not, we just have to endure.

Suddenly, remembered Rhino in the movie Walt Disney film Bolt said:

"No matter what happens, LIFE goes on!"

Anyway, back to business, ever thinking of how is it to be of a world without engineers? Anyone? Here are some clues I got from the internet. Enjoy!

without civil engineers

without aerospace engineers

without material engineers

without electrical & electronic engineers

without mechanical engineers

without chemical engineers
(can't figure out why, maybe the periodic table & natural elements)

In short, engineers make the world goes round & proud to be one!
Till the next posting.

p/s - *just another rambling out of nothing*

  3. jeez, mate. dedicated? i had jsut started teaching 2 months ago, man. oh yeah, i kinda need your opinion regarding a comment i received from a man named mat kilau. he said something about how hard it was to put BM in place, and how easy it is now, for us to put it away. i dont get it. does PPSMI do that? like..removing BM from its place? your view, i humbly request. here's my angry PPSMI post:

  4. Dear MJ,

I think Mat Kilau's point there is off tangent. Poor thing, the nick suits not the man.

To me, PPSMI is not & never will be a threat to BM because BM is our official national language. No matter from which ethnicity we are from, as long as we are Malaysians - we are bound to literally have a command in BM. Be it in the market, food stalls, government buildings e.g. court, government schools, parliament etc. Everyone, everywhere is talking in BM. Are they going to imply that just because I speak & write in English for just let say, 4-6 hours a day during school for 2 crucial lessons i.e. Sc & Maths which somehow determine my future - makes me a good-for-nothing BM speaker? Or, on the other way round, does speaking and learning certain things in Arabic, makes someone an Arab - eroding the fact that one is not - no matter how hard one try? To me, it is not the language we spoke that makes us the person we are, it is more likely to what's in our hearts!

The notion that PPSMI is detrimental - leaving BM in vain is also obsolete. The issue here is the teaching of only Sc & Maths in English not the teaching of the entire education system in English. One can still converse in BM during PE, Seni, BM classes etc. In fact, BM is regarded as a compulsory medium of conversation in most public schools out there. So, the idea of PPSMI is *throwing away* the sanctity of BM - as he mentioned it - in out of the topic at the very first place.

Some even suggested that we should revert to consider Mother Tongue in learning Sc. & Maths with the hope that students will grasp the knowledge better. If that's the case, then how many new schools are we going to build, when segregation of students according to their groups is to be sorted? Which mother tongues are to be considered? How long will it takes to translate the pre-existing scholarly documents to each of our so-called understandable tongues? 10, 100, 1000 years? Worst still, is this kind of disparity a good thing for unity? Again, some people just leave a comment for the sake of commenting without a little bit of mind check.*Really wonderful our thinking is..*

Lastly, PPSMI will never be a waste because the knowledge we are seeking in this whole education world is mostly in English. Even, in tertiary education i.e. in the university, most of the reference books dedicated to Sc. & Maths are in English. That's why PPSMI, beginning from the elementary to secondary standards is indeed a vibrant kick-off so that students will have the chance to adjust themselves into the system before a greater challenge during university life is to commence!

Is that answering your call? *I think it's quite strayed* Good day!
