REFLECTION ON 2008: A LOPSIDED FORMULA?

With just a blink of eyes – provided that you are maintaining your pace at a greater speed relative to others where Einstein’s Theory of Relativity is applicable with zero defect! – 2008 has already dropped its curtain.

Generally, as there are no absolute measure of how to gauge humans’ emotions and feelings – a challenge for those Experimental & Theoretical Physicists. LOL. – We can’t just simply nail our conclusion straight down under the log.

Success wise, (at least to the standard meaning of it) we are indeed successful. Why not? We have proved that we are not the one and only living creatures all throughout the extra-terrestrials inhibiting this tiny, adorable Milky Way. And to our bombshell, we are only a mere part of a vast un-imaginable universe. Again, to a more extreme extent, there are some over-reacting @ eccentric @ lunatic (or whatever you call it) people who claimed to be God-like! So, you bet, are we not successful? Think againNational Geographic™

Before I forgot, thumbs up to every single people in the world – you guys deserved credits – for we are still able to breathe this wonderful tax-free, luminous air! Am I right? That is considered success what. For being able to inhale this relaxing air – coupled with a soothing writing – which you are NOW reading. Hehe.

I personally think, a moment like this is the one worth waiting for even for the next thousand years! By the way, don’t be mistaken, I’m not begging you to forever stick to this boring, un-scholastic writing of mine but to remind all regarding the beauty of our existing un-renewable most precious treasure – the AIR! Just in case you back to differ, then I shall promote you Mitch Albom’s “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” for early preparation… LOL.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, I will not list down all the achievements we’ve thrived – I’m not a historian anyway. But, my view is that some achievements maybe good to someone while some maybe the other way round for somebody else depending on the situations. As though pre-determined, it seems to me that it looks like more to fall into the latter category. You may call it biased and radical but that’s the way I see it.

With the current economic turmoil, some may become one of the happiest men ever lived and the other maybe the one getting the worst nightmare ever.

For instance, “…when a corporation announces downsizing, people get laid off, unemployment rate goes up… the price of the stock goes up… and when stock price goes up, shareholders get richer. Employees lose; owners and investors win.” (Rich Dad, Poor Dad – Robert T. Kiyosaki, p.10)

The rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer.

This fundamental basic should be made known to the rest of the world so that something can be done to change the fates of many whereby:

One third of all children are not registered at birth, resulting in no official record of their existence and leaving them vulnerable to denial of health care and schooling.

Around 30 million infants do not receive routine immunizations.

A third of the children in the world suffer from malnutrition

Over 100 million children are not in school and many more are lacking in basic education.

Furthermore, as time goes by, we were shocked by the never-ending conflict between Israel and Palestine which happens to getting worse each day. I always wonder why it is very difficult for us to live as one in this temporary, unjust world – mind you, at the very first place, this world was not ours though. Hence, why are these things happening?

Is it because we are different in terms of ethnicity, beliefs, backgrounds and colors that separates us the way it is now? Or, is it the very nature of men – to be the most powerful and dominating of all. That brings me into a question; knowing the fact that differences are the cause, why not eliminate differences?

A fresh new start can be commenced and the disputes can be ended once and for all by taking suitable measures to bridge the gaps between us.

Of course, all of these are easily said in this writing than to be done in reality but if we are to remember, is it not the little sparks that initiate a fire? It is not about a question of how to implement or who to in-force the law but to me, it is more of WHEN to begin? Sort of enough said, just walk the talk!

Indeed, I often get pissed off easily by the PEOPLE in The United Nations (UN) – the so called guardian of justice for all mankind living in planet Earth. To make things crystal clear, I am not criticizing the UN body itself which to me is the best vessel of refuge for the needy but I am directing this view to those who work off stage manipulating the sacred body for their own benefits.

We, humans, are being entrusted to be the sole caretaker of this dying planet – yet, what have we done? We called ourselves to be highly civilized – earning great degrees of top-notch intelligent yet, we often forget the very basic principal of life – helping others who are in need!

The committees of the UN Security Council are enjoying their mouth watered by drinks of kings and being treated like there will be no tomorrows in their imported wool-cushioned comfortable chairs and gold chalice – while they are JUST TO START discussing on what actions should be done; when millions of innocent lives including infants, children, adolescents and old folks are dying incessantly in this world every day due to ethnic cleansing, massacres, underfeeding, malnutrition, lack of medical care and many other possible ways waiting for their “effort” to commence.

Where are all the moral wisdom that we learn from school? Where are those good sides of men? Bluntly asking, are we (with our brutal, egoistic character and manipulating attitude) fit enough to be trusted again? If yes, then prove it.

The world needs a hero who can show them that sometimes the IMPOSSIBLES are POSSIBLE as long as you BELIEVE! To start with, I personally believe you can by changing our attitudes.

As, Andrew Carnegie wanted to have on his tombstone: “Here lies a man who attracted better people into his service than he was himself.” It begins in you starting from inside. Always!

Till the next posting.
