BEAUTY OF MATH

From mathematical point of view, what equals 100%? What does it means to give more than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? How about achieving 101% @ more?




What equals 100% in LIFE? Pleasure? Money? Happiness?

Here's a little mathematical formula that might help to answer these sets of questions:

UNSUNG HEROES


I maybe not be one of the eminent music connoisseurs in own people's music entertainment - being exposed and listening to English songs since childhood - but Tuku Kame's recent extravagant achievement (should I exaggerate more?) in World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) @ fondly regarded as 'Talent Olympics' in Hollywood did chill my nerves, at least a little.

Anywho, who's this Tuku Kame fellas? Click here. They are indeed a blend of valuable talents which promised a better music for tomorrow.



Click here and here for news report of their recent achievements. Well, I just can't help to say that I'm so proud of them! What more can be said then. A picture is worth than thousand words.

Also, somewhere in the distance, there are people like my forever favourite Ernesto Kalum and a newbie called the Ethnic Transmission which work of arts are worthy to be given a round of a floor for their unseen efforts (though underground) in developing our music industry.

Tracking back into history, it's kind of weird to me that superb talents like those mentioned above were all began at the very bottom of the ride. Most of the time, they'll be stuck there forever. I know, experience is the best teacher but somehow or rather don't you think that everyone deserves a fair game to play?

Like it or not, our society is prone to make believes that an artist's success is depending on his/her popularity. The popular you'll be, the more successful you'll look. In our account, most likely glamor and fame overshadowed talents.

Take this silly looking scumbag Mawi for example who suddenly out of nowhere rise to fame in a day but after seconds gone in the fall of a night. Popcorn success, that's the way it is! To be precise, that's maybe one of the biggest mistakes our society ever made.

The utmost measure of a successful piece is how much passion you put in it. Beginning from the very end, with confidence you keep on trying. To conclude it all, the legendary P.Ramlee once said;
"Aku nak hidup seribu tahun Jis... bukan kerna kemashuran tetapi dengan karya ku yang hidup dalam ingatan..."

Now that's a true legend. As long as we have this kind of genuine artists lingering around behind our backyard unnoticed, the future seems bright. To many they maybe nothing but at least to me, these are true heroes of which words of thanks shall echo endlessly.

p/s - R.I.P. to Yasmin Ahmad, the very true gem of talent polished by Nature to widen Malaysians perspective on entertainment and concept of racial harmony.

A DAY IN MY SHOE


Getting an update from The Star (news) this morning was definitely devastating. Malaysia had once again lost a rare talented gem like the one and only Yasmin Ahmad.

Sincerely, compared to other producers in our entertainment industry, she deserved a salute in the way she portrayed her work - which is always genuine, honest and full of love. Yasmin will always be remembered as someone who dares to break the men-made 'taboos' i.e. racial harmony and humanity values in our society. God blesses her soul.

On the other hand, there's this some incorrigible creature named Hadi Awang who purportedly stir inevitable rage in Sarawak offending the very nature of the aborigines (including me) stating;

"Semua pilihanraya kecil sebelum ini keputusannya memihak kepada kita. Cuma di Batang Ai sahaja kita kalah sebab mereka ini tidak reti undi, pakai cawat lagi. Saya bukan nak hina tetapi tempat yang pakai molek, undi PAS"

Click here and here for news report. This kind of statement is bizarrely shocking, fresh from a divine mouth of an 'alim ulama' which to me is unacceptable. Not only that this remarks could stir racial harmonic chaos but in a long run, how can one ever believe a leader who upholds respect as his last resort?

Isn't it obvious, the reason of PAS defeat in Sarawak back then is not that we totally detested your religious teaching whatsoever, call me a blunder but to me the utmost reason is because we'll never UNDERSTAND each other as to the way your neverending dispute with your long time nemesis i.e. UMNO.

How can Hadi demand respect from the people of Btg. Ai and claimed to be their champion when he himself despise and look down into our people's culture and tradition? Did Hadi ever been to Btg. Ai and seen for himself their way of life? Did Hadi ever care to hear our plight rather than talking nonsense spreading his so-called pious believes? If his intention of invading Sarawak through PKR is just to make funs of people, then Hadi should STOP!

I admit that my people is still left far behind, that they are just rural folks who knew nothing about this sonic moving pace of globalization, that they are even vote blindly as Hadi mentioned during elections. YES we are. So, what? Why do you care? Did Hadi ever provide for me and the rest of my family? Ah, don't Hadi know @ (pretending not to know) that most of our naturally rich resources are used to supplement his state? So, who's who now?

There are boundaries for everything and so do us, The Ibans. The notion that we are still living in an ice age kind of world is completely untrue. Don't you go to school @ can I conclude that there's not even a single school in your state?

Again, that statement is truly unforgivable. We the people of Sarawak together with our flip-flop no-guts leaders demand public appology from this brat Hadi. The insult is humiliating and discouraging. It's like saying "hey, you look stupid wearing that songkok" Don't you feel angry? So did us.

p/s - If Hadi were to be in Sarawak next time, he better be dressed properly (molek) just in case my 96 years old grandma out-dressed him!

TIMES & CHIMES

People used to say; “time is precious”. For with and without it, uncertainties are just a step ahead.

Also, there are others who even exaggeratedly proclaimed “time is gold”, “time is money” etc. and the list goes on. You name it.


Thank God, we did acknowledge TIME! I presumed only the Japanese took it seriously.


So, my easy straight-forward questions are;

  1. If time is that precious, why waste it?
  2. If time is gold, why not treasure it?
  3. If time is money, why “Malaysian Time” is more popular than “Malaysian Ringgit”?



Malaysians are GENERALLY quite lay back in punctuality from all walks of life – be it for meetings, discussions, outings etc. Worse still, there is this cliche of when you are to meet a Malaysian, do apply the 30mins rule!


Meaning, if you are to meet at 10pm for a real occasion, you better state 9:30pm r.s.v.p. or else, you’ll be kept waiting for the rest 30mins – fair enough, it’s okay when the latecomer is projecting an apology upon arrival but in most cases, sorry to say, that would be the last word you’ll hear before calling it a day!


As you can see, this is NOT APPLICABLE TO ALL – they are just for typical Malaysians.


I often wondered, “from whom” and “since when” did we inherited this indecent habit?


Shakespeare once said; of course the blame is not from our stars!


Nor do I feel it was in our genes. The blood that flows in these veins will become the almighty proof of this claim.


Also, I assumed that none of those traits were from our forefathers. Me myself, wanted to believe that they are not time-mangers! Indeed, they are those who treasured time the most – in fact, far greater than the Japanese.


This can be observed if we were to have the opportunity to travel back time inwardly. Believe it or not, our findings must be astounding!


Above all, one thing for sure, procrastination is not our cup of tea because it was and should not be!


Let’s be serious on our time management and together we turn over a new leaf. Gone were those days where 30mins rule was applied.


So, the next time you are to meet with somebody – I’m not suggesting coming over by 30mins earlier, that’s too obvious – But, at least, you try to be the first one waiting (you see, I purposely used the word “waiting” here not “coming” because if you are the one who first came, most likely there was somebody already waiting!”. Got it?
